My first $ online

Excitement + the trap of earning your first $ online

October 2022, was the month I made my first money online by freelancing and working for a podcast, and yes, the work was about the topic we are talking about for the last few weeks.

You are new here? No problem, you can read the earlier versions of our newsletter and get some context from here

I was excited, nervous, overwhelmed, and anxious about the new people I was going to work with, managing it with college, studies, weightlifting, and Twitter.

But guess what? I figured it out, and you will too, as you always have, it was an amazing experience for me, I got the work from networking with people on Twitter, joining communities, having the relevant skill, and last but not the least hunger for more.

The full story

(Long story coming ahead, grab something to have while you read this)

To dive deep into the topic, and for me to give you some value that you can implement in your life, we first have to know the context of exactly how I got this opportunity and earned some 💰️.

Btw this was(not) my reaction after the guy who I worked with sent me my payment after a month of working:

It all started when I was searching and curious about Web3 and wanted to join some groups/communities revolving around events or general things about Web3.

I joined such a group and started looking for opportunities where I can work and gain experience…..

After looking for 3-4 days, someone posted an opportunity for work in the video editing and creation domain, I was a good video editor and also had a good amount of experience regarding the same.

I showed my work to the guy, some of my samples and he happily offered me to work for him (podcast) for his new channel.

At first, not gonna lie, I was overwhelmed by the amount of work and time needed for completing a video on time and editing it according to the requirements, it was very difficult for me to manage time for this besides college, coding and lifting.

Freelancing is tough man, pff.

You have some context about what I went through earning my first $ online, maybe you figured it out, maybe you don’t.

Don’t worry if you don’t, I have some key points that you need to remember and go about searching for work, let’s get to the point now!

———————————————————————————

The Golden 3 Rule:

I always follow a golden 3 rule in my life, what is it?

For anything you want to get better at, succeed, or start progressing towards, there are only 3 key value points you need to consider, and finally, start working on.

Similarly, there are 3 things to consider when starting to look for opportunities online, and they are:

  1. Value Proposition

  2. Value Index

  3. Value Dispense

Don’t worry, I will break down each of them and explain it to you, grab your coffee, a pen, and a book, this is going to be super valuable:

———————————————————————————

1. Value Proposition:

This step is simple, you just need to identify your skills and propose some value you have in order to sell it. If you don’t have any skills, just pick one that excites you and start learning it.

Almost everything is available on the Internet for FREE, you only need curiosity and discipline to learn something new.

Pick a niche where you want to provide value in, work for, and progress in.

2. Value Index (VERY IMP):

Index is nothing but a portfolio, having skills and nowhere to show it to other people is as good as not having any at all.

You need to gain authority over people and prove that you have the skillset for providing value and working for someone.

How do you do it? Stick to one of these methods, I personally chose the first one:

  • Build an audience online:

→ Exactly what I am doing today, sharing my learnings along the way, and getting more and more people to join my journey.

→ Something that might help you is the Twitter growth guide I made, which made me reach 0-5000 followers in under 6 months.

→ Over 100+ people bought it and are seeing amazing results, you can check it here (shameless plug :p)

  • Share your journey:

→ Write about what you are learning online, it maybe any platform, I suggest twitter.

  • Sample work: This one is a no brainer, if you want someone to hire you as a freelancer or part time intern, you need to showcase your abilities to them.

3. Value Dispense:

People should be overwhelmed by the amount of skills you have and value you can provide, that is the level you should aim for, but as beginners (I am a beginner myself) we’ll of course not reach that level early in our journey.

It takes time, that is why it is valuable and worth it, don’t get discouraged if you didn’t get any work in the first 3-4 months of doing this, it is what it is.

———————————————————————————

Sigh, that was a lot of information to consume on a fresh morning, or afternoon, or evening, whatever it may be, but it was too much.

Now what? Time to implement, my friend.

Remember what I told you in one of the emails?

Never let learning outpace your execution.

Time to bring it to life.

Well, that’s all I have got for you in this issue, I hope that was enough, if not too much 🥲 , but yeah, you’re good to go and start working now.

Take care, see you next Sunday, when I am gonna share a sneak peek of a product I am building for you, which will help you stay consistent with your coding journey (perks of being on my email list).

Good luck with the journey, bye.
